Mac Scott is a national organizer for the Coalition for the Human Rights of Immigrants (CHRI). Formed “in response to an increase in workplace raids by the INS,” the goal of CHRI is to secure labor rights for illegal immigrants in the U.S. by confronting what it calls “anti-immigrant policies” through “grassroots education and action.” The CHRI has published a brochure entitled Protect Yourself During a Raid, detailing the best way for illegal immigrant workers to avoid being arrested.
Although the CHRI caters primarily to illegal immigrants from Mexico, shortly after the 9/11 attacks against the United States, this group began distributing a pamphlet calling for the discontinuance of policies aimed at keeping terrorists out of the U.S. Regarding homeland security measures enacted after the 9/11 attacks to better monitor foreigners inside the U.S., Scott has said, “The effects on immigrant communities has been devastating – so many people have had family members deported, detained, or at the very least, interrogated.” Scott was also an organizer for “Operation Homeland Resistance,” which called on New Yorkers to participate in “civil disobedience and creative action” in protest to the War in Iraq. Scott has also served as membership coordinator for the pro-Communist National Lawyers’ Guild (NLG).
